The Healing Crisis

When I first started exploring Alternative healing therapies, one of the big topics, especially with homeopathy, was the "Healing Crisis". It was the recognition that when the body's healing response was triggered, it unleashed the equivalent of a small war within the body. Like all wars, healing crises can be messy; they are uncomfortable at best and can be downright agonizing.

When taken in the context of German New Medicine, healing crises are given a greater understanding. From its perspective, most illnesses are not even diagnosed until they are in a healing phase. The crisis comes at the peak of the healing process. The inflammation reaches a critical stage and creates discomfort. The debris material which has either been decomposed from former tissue proliferation or left over from the repair of ulcerated/necrotized tissue begins to be ejected from the body. This process is simultaneously going on in the brain for the original lesion as well as the organ involved.

When there is a major issue going on in the body say in the lungs or bronchia, which equates with a death conflict, the turnaround can be enough to trigger a visit to the emergency room. That would be unfortunate as one could wind up with a frightening diagnosis and perhaps some invasive treatment. This almost happened to me one night when I laid down to sleep only to experience some rather intense chest pains. It took a little while but I was able to trace the issue back to an ongoing conflict which had finally resolved. That night was agony and the subsequent weeks were no picnic.

A similar situation occurred with a client who is also a health professional. When clearing an issue connected to the bronchia I let her know that there could be a healing crisis as that is how the body resolves these issues. She rejected my pronouncement as being negative and had totally forgotten about it when the crisis hit. Luckily the person she consulted at the time noticed no bacterial infection and so it did not result in an ER visit. It did result in several weeks in bed, totally exhausted.

As often happens when writing these articles, I started this one several weeks ago, with no idea as to what direction it would take. Then I met a homeopath and suddenly had the insight that this was what homeopathy is all about. It's not "Like" curing "Like", but "Like" accelerating the healing process which is already underway. It's "Like" making "Like" more intense. When she subsequently reviewed the New Medicine information she reported that if was a deeper understanding of what she was practicing for decades.

The healing process usually requires a lot of protein to repair or replace damaged and lost tissue. It is not the time to go on a cleansing fast, but rather give the body what it needs to rebuild itself. Smarmily inflammation is part of the healing process and an overindulgence of anti-inflammatory meds or supplements can slow recovery. It is important to honor the body and not mask the symptoms and take stimulants so that you can function at your normal fast pace. That may very well be part of the equation which triggered the illness to begin with. Love is what heals, so we have to learn to love ourselves and our body.
